Description:  This size photo does not do this scene justice! It was a long, hot wait at Oostanaula Bend for this northbound freight, but the payoff was well worth the effort! Seven locos and 110 cars blast their way through the bean fields on their way to Chattanooga. Description:  What do you do when you can't sleep? Drink milk? Read a book? Do the horizontal polka? How about chasin' a train? This photo was taken on the NS line north of Carbondale at about 2:30 in the morning. The lights from nearby Carbondale and Dalton make the night scene look like twilight.

Mt. Chetooga
Title:  Mt. Chetooga
Description:  The bore at Tunnel Hill is the only tunnel on the Western & Atlantic Sub. The "modern" bore is 460+ meters in length, and was built in 1928. The old bore (to the right) was finished in 1850. It was a target for Andrew's raiders in 1862, but survived the Civil War undamaged. It was closed when the new bore opened, and was actually "lost" for a few years as Kudzuu consumed the tunnel entrances on both sides of the mountain. The old bore is now part of a walking trail.
